Summary
For Melinda Malley the creator of flippy the friendly swarm robot, I built a simple system, a scroller to acknowledge the nonstop mix of horrific and commercial updates we’re all used to, and the kind of noise that makes you think: maybe I just want to be pretty and ignore it. The scroller was built for her interpretive performance of Candide: Act I, No. 12. “Glitter and Be Gay” for her annual Pole Sport competition.
The display was intentinally low-fi, robust, and fully hands-free, designed to match the aesthetic constraints of the performance environment. It was powered by an off-the-shelf battery pack to avoid reliance on wall power and ensure seamless operation on stage.
I’ve made the parameteric accessible below for future use!
